We have had a confirmed case of a strep A infection in school.
Strep A can cause scarlet fever which is a mild infection treatable with anti-biotics, in very rare occasions this can develop into something more serious.
Symptoms include: sore throat, headache, fever, a fine pinkish red body rash with a sandpapery feel. On darker skin, the rash can be more difficult to detect visually but will have a sandpapery feel.
If you are concerned that you are child is exhibiting any of these symptoms, please contact your GP practice or NHS 111.
Children can return to school 24 hours after beginning anti-biotic treatment.
