Puffins

Puffin Class

Spring Term 1

Happy New Year to you all! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and the children are well rested and ready for the new term.

This term we are doing a whole school topic 'DIG'. Puffin class will focus on animals that make their homes underground. Our shared books will be stories linked to our learning each week and we will learn lots of facts to write about. All of our continuous provision activities will be linked to our topic.

Phonics

Our phonic scheme links directly to our reading scheme. We will be continuing phase 3 this term and your child will be given homework every Friday which will be based on the group of sounds (phonemes) they've learnt that week. Please complete and return by Wednesday the following week. They will also be given a Precision Teach piece of paper; please set a 1 minute timer on your phone and encourage your child to say each sound (phoneme) working across the line. If they don't know it, you can tell them and continue. The idea is that the more they do this the more phonemes they'll retain and it is so easy to do as literally only takes one minute. We normally see fantastic results! This sheet will then be updated as and when your child is confident with each group of phonemes.

Maths

In maths, we will master numbers up to 9 and learn to name and describe both 2d and 3d shapes. We will be recapping bonds to 5 and doubles. Spotting shapes in the environment is an easy way to support at home, as is spotting different numerals or asking your child to count out objects to ensure they are counting accurately.

In RE we are learning about caring for others and the world. We will listen to bible stories about being kind and helpful and we will learn about creation. At the end of the term we will consider ways we can look after the world through the three Rs and learn how to become responsible citizens.

Our PE day is still a Thursday and there will be no Forest School this term.

Our Value focus this term is Honesty

If you have any questions you can jot them in the Partnership Diary as this is checked daily. Alternatively you can always ask at the end of the day. If it is something which you'd rather keep private or may take a little longer to discuss please arrange a time with the office. Thank you in advance for the support you'll be giving your child at home, it really is invaluable.
