At Old Dalby C of E Primary school, we recognise the contribution we can make to protecting children and supporting pupils in school. Our policies and practice reflect our commitment to safeguard and promote our pupils’ welfare, safety and health by fostering an honest, open, caring and supportive climate. The pupils’ welfare is of paramount importance.
We recognise the following four elements as pivotal to our responsibilities:
- Prevention (e.g. positive school atmosphere, teaching and pastoral support for pupils, safer recruitment procedures);
- Protection (by following agreed procedures, ensuring staff are trained and supported to respond appropriately and sensitively to Child Protection concerns);
- Support (to pupils and school staff and to children who may have been harmed or abused);
- Working with parents (to ensure appropriate communications and actions are undertaken).
Prevent
All staff and governors have the latest safeguarding training and Prevent Duty training.
Operation Encompass
Old Dalby C of E Primary School works alongside Leicestershire Police as part of Operation Encompass.
Operation Encompass is the reporting to schools, prior to the start of the next school day, when a child or young person has experienced, any domestic abuse.
Operation Encompass will ensure that a member of the school staff, (DSL) known as a Key Adult, is trained to allow them to liaise with the police and to use the information that has been shared, in confidence, while ensuring that the school is able to make provision for possible difficulties experienced by children, or their families, who have been experienced a domestic abuse incident.
We are keen to offer the best support possible to all our pupils and we believe this will be extremely beneficial for all those involved.
Our Key Adult and Designated Safeguarding Lead is Mrs Rosie Browne (Headteacher).
We have three Deputy Safeguarding Leads: Mrs Katie Keast, Mrs Rachael Horan and Mrs Megan Alderson
