Welcome to Penguin Class - Year 3!
Autumn Topic Information
Our topic this term is Unearthing the Past!
Maths: Place Value; Addition & Subtraction; Multiplication & Division.
English: To support our topic, we will be using the book 'Stig of the Dump' by Clive King to enhance our reading comprehension and writing ideas.
Science: We will be learning about rocks and soils.
History: We will be learning all about early life in the Stone Age through to daily life in the Iron Age.
Geography: We will be exploring what Bradgate Park is like.
Design & Technology: We will be designing, making and evaluating an Iron Age shelter.
RE: We will be exploring and answering the following questions:
Autumn 1 - 'Who is Muslim and how do they live?'
Autumn 2 - 'What is the Trinity and why is it important for Christians?'
Computing: We will be looking at what computer systems and networks are, and how digital devices connect and communicate with each other.
SRE: We will learning about the responsibility we have to respect ourselves and others.
Music: All of KS2 will take part in a weekly recorder lesson with Mrs Hickton (remember your instrument goes home after the lesson, you need to bring it back in on a Friday morning!)
Latin: Our Latin topic this term is 'Meet the Family.'
General Information
Our PE day is Tuesday (Children to come to school in kit).
Reading: We ask that your child is heard reading 3 times a week or more at home. Every Friday the children can change their books, and their partnership books will be checked. Your child will then receive a raffle ticket if they have read 3 times or more which goes into the reading raffle once every half term. Please use the comprehension bookmarks attached to your child’s partnership book to provide helpful prompts and questions while reading with your child. These will support your child in developing their understanding, vocabulary and comprehension skills.
Spelling: Children will receive their spelling homework on a Friday, and it should be returned the following Friday. Please be aware that the new spelling focus is introduced in class on Monday, so if your child chooses to complete their homework over the weekend, they may not yet have covered the content. Spelling homework is not intended to be completed in one go; instead, it can be spread out across the week as children learn the weekly focus and new spelling rules.
Times Tables: Children are to practice their times tables on TT Rockstars. By the end of year 3, children are expected to recall and use the multiplication and division facts for the 3, 4, and 8 times tables. They should also remain fluent in the 2, 5, and 10 times tables that they learnt in year 2.
Partnership Books: It is the expectation that your child's partnership book will be bought into school daily. These will be checked and signed by an adult. Please do not hesitate to write any messages in there and also look out for any notes from the school.
