    Forest School, Kingfisher Class, 14th December

    As the whole school is going out to the pantomime in the morning, please send children with a school jumper on over their forest school clothes.  This will really help us in the theatre as there will be other schools there with us.  We will make sure they remove their jumpers before going to Forest School in the afternoon.  Please send a jumper/warm top for them to change in to for the afternoon.

    Christmas Church Service – 20th December

    Parents are welcome to join us for our Christmas service in the church.   This will begin at 9.45 but parents are welcome to go to the church earlier and there will be pastries and hot drinks.  Please be aware that there is no heating in the church, so please wrap  yourselves and your children up warmly.

    Christmas Raffle (PTA)

    Last week to buy and sell raffle tickets.  Closing date for ticket sales is 15 December.  Please return all forms to school by December 15th or earlier so we can process sales and send out raffle numbers; or you can send in cash to the school office.   The raffle will be drawn on 20th December.

    Children’s Christmas parties (PTA)

    PTA children’s Christmas party on 19th December at Old Dalby Village Hall:  Reception to Year 2 is 5.30 – 6.30 p.m.   Years 3 and above 6.45 to 7.45 p.m.  Entry is free but there will be food and drink to buy on the night including our famous PTA hotdogs.  PLACES MUST BE PREBOOKED AND HOTDOGS ORDERED BY SUNDAY 17TH DECEMBER   You can fill in the form here:

    School cleaner required on a Tuesday and Thursday term time and during school holidays 2pm to 6.30 p.m.  £11.38per hour. An application form and job description are available on the school website.  Thank you.

    FLU – still time to get your child vaccinated

    If your child missed the vaccination at school, the NHS is still able to offer the nasal flu vaccine through community pharmacy partners.    Visit: www.leicsadrutlandimms.co.uk  Select seasonal flu.  Enter the Old Dalby School code   LE140095  If you had already completed a consent form but your child missed the vaccination, you may have already received an alternative date.  Please check your junk emails.

    St Mary’s Church, Nether Broughton – Sunday 3rd December at 4.00 p.m. Nether Broughton Village Hall.  What is advent all about?  Come along to find out more through music, readings, prayer and craft activities.  Everyone is welcome, especially families with children.  Refreshments will be provided.  

    Medicines in School

    Please remember that in order for us to administer medicine to your child at school the ‘Parental agreement for school to administer medicine’ form must be completed, with clear instructions as to dosage and timings.  Please label with your child’s name.    Please do not send medicine in without the form – it is available to download on the school website.  Thank you.

    Book Fair

    The takings for our Book Fair this year were £1049.58 which is a record!  This has earned the school £524.79 in rewards.  

    Children in Need

    We raised £179.52 for Children in Need – thank you.

    Christmas Raffle (PTA)

    Tickets for the Christmas Raffle are now on sale and the competition to sell the most tickets has started.  Please see the leaflet sent home this week in children’s bags for details about how to sell and buy the tickets. Tickets will also be on sale for the next two Friday’s at the cake sale and the Nativity screenings.   Closing date for ticket sales is 15th December.  The raffle will be drawn on 20th December.

    Breakfast Club – Monday 27th November

    Please do not use the car park to drop children off for breakfast club on Monday.  The steel work is being delivered for the hall extension and there will be a large delivery lorry and a crane working in the car park.  It will not be safe for drop off.  Please use the turning circle, the small gate will be open from 8.00 a.m.  Thank you

    Wednesday 29th November – No Pens Day

    Next Wednesday we will be taking part in a national initiative designed to develop children’s speech and language skills – No Pens Day.  All day the children will be developing their language skills and having some fun too!

    Christmas Raffle

    The PTA Christmas raffle tickets will be on sale from next week.  This year we are looking for your support to help sell tickets so we can raise as much as we can to help fund future trips, outings and activities that benefit the children.

    We will be sending home leaflets in school bags and ask that everyone tries to sell as many tickets as they can.  Prizes for most tickets sold!  There will be a prize for KS1 and KS2 for the children that sell the most tickets.  Money collected can either be transferred directly into the PTA bank account (Reference RAF followed by child’s surname plus the number of tickets (e.g. RAFSMITH3) or cash sent back to school in an envelope with your completed forms.  Thank you and good luck!

    PTA Christmas Market

    The PTA would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped with, baked cakes for, and came along to support our Christmas Market on Wednesday.  We made a whopping £770 which will go into the pot to support activities and events for the children.  THANK YOU!

    Monday 13th November  BBC Radio 4 on site

    Just for your information BBC Radio 4 are recording at Old Dalby on Monday.  There will be a sound engineer at the gate recording sounds of children coming in to school in the morning.  This is part of a longer programme presented by Baroness Louise Casey which will be broadcast in the new year. 

    PTA Christmas Fair – 15th November

    7-9 p.m. Old Dalby Village Hall.  Thanks to all of you who have brought in mince pies for sale at the Market, we are still accepting donations until the morning of Wednesday 15th, just drop them in at the school office.

    There will be lots of lovely items on sale – where you can, please consider paying by cash so that the stallholders are able to keep the money from sales.

    Children in Need – Friday 17th November

    Inspired by Pudsey’s multi-coloured eye patch, the prefects are inviting everyone to come in colourful clothes on Friday 17th and bring a donation for Children in Need.  Over the course of that week, the classes will be taking part in the 1000 Burpee Challenge, can each class make it 1000 by the end of the week?

    Swimming for Nightingale, Penguin, Osprey and Hummingbird will start on 14 November.  Without your consent your child will be unable to take part – please sign up on Arbor if you have not yet done so.

    Beauty and the Beast – Christmas treat from the PTA


    The PTA are treating the whole school to a trip to see Beauty and the Beast at Melton Theatre on Thursday, 14th December. This has been made possible by the tremendous amount of fundraising they carry out each year. So, if you have bought a cake, a raffle ticket, donated a prize or supported in any other way – THANK YOU!


    Children in Need – Friday 17th November


    Inspired by Pudsey’s multi-coloured eye patch, the prefects are inviting everyone to come in colourful clothes on Friday 17th and bring a donation for Children in Need. Over the course of that week, the classes will be taking part in the 1000 Burpee Challenge, can each class make it to 1000 by the end of the week?


    PTA Christmas Fair 15th November

    Music for Schools Foundation


    Following two very entertaining music themed assemblies at the start of the week for children in Year 2 upwards, we will be working with the Music for Schools Foundation to offer access to individual and small group music lessons. Mrs Hickton, who also works as a tutor for the Foundation, will be available to discuss what is on offer and will have a range of instruments to view in Puffin Class, after school on Friday 10th November. Please feel free to drop in and have a chat about what is available.

    Coffee Morning

    A huge thank you to everybody who attended or made cakes for our coffee morning in aid of Prevent Breast Cancer.  We have made over £215.   We look forward to doing similar coffee mornings in the future.

    Parking

    Just a reminder that there should be no parking in the turning circle at the front of the school.    A quick drop off in the mornings is ok.     Buses need access, particularly at the start and end of the day.  Thank you

    Sponsored Matchbox Challenge

    The PTA are launching their sponsored matchbox challenge for half term.  Children will bring home a matchbox, rules sheet and sponsorship form.  We challenge the children to fill their boxes; please read the rules sheet.  Once full, itemise the contents on the list sheet and write down the total number of items in the box.  Please ask friends and family to sponsor your child, either per item or a set amount of money for filling the box and return to school by Friday 27th October.  Children are also encouraged to decorate their matchboxes, leaving the base clear with their names on it.  Prizes will be awarded for the best decorated matchboxes and also for the highest number of items inside.  Thank you.

    Community Coffee Morning

    Friday 27th October – 10-11 a.m.   Parents and members of the local community are invited to join us for a coffee morning to raise funds for Prevent Breast Cancer  If you would like to come please let us know office@olddalbyschool.org.uk as spaces are limited.  If you are able to donate a cake that would be appreciated.   There will be a collection box for donations and a mini raffle.

    Mrs Keast Update

    We are so pleased to be able to say that Mrs Keast’s treatment is progressing well and she is staying positive. The whole Old Dalby family sends her our love, we can’t wait to see you again.

    Vision Champions

    Congratulations to our new Vision Champions! We had a record number of children apply for the role this year, we are incredibly proud that so many children want to take a bigger part in school life. Unfortunately, we can only have 12, so our new Vision Champions are:

    Jacob W, Ruby R, Jasper H-P, Isabelle J, Elizabeth H, Izzy G, Noah F, Ella W, Bethany D, Isaac M, Olivia R, Josh H

    School Dinners

    From Monday, school dinners will be provided by Coombs Catering Partnership. KS2 dinners will return to £2.45. The current menu options will not change until after half term, when a new 3-week menu will be introduced.

    On Thursday, 5th October, there will be a special menu of chicken nuggets or cheese pizza, curly fries, corn on the cob and chocolate cake.

    There will be gold stars stuck to the bottom of 2 plates – who ever gets a star, wins a prize!

    There will be no change to how dinners are ordered or paid for.

    Scouts and Beavers

    Are you aged between 6 and 8 years old and love a bit of fun and adventure?  Come and join the 1st Old Dalby Beaver Scouts on a Tuesday evening at the Scout Hut in Queensway, Old Dalby.

    We can guarantee fun, friendship and adventure as well as building confidence and learning new skills.
